What is RONGO RONGO?
Besides a really cool tune from mr. moai & The Tikiheads
So, there's this cool thing called Rongorongo that folks found back in the 1800s on Easter Island (Rapa Nui). It's a bunch of symbols that might be some form of writing or photo-writing. People have tried really hard to figure it out, but no one has cracked the code yet.
Back in the late 1800s, about two dozen wooden objects with these Rongorongo inscriptions were found. Some were beat up from the weather, burned, or just plain damaged. Now, they're spread out in museums and private collections, but none of them are left on Easter Island.
Oh, and by the way, Rongorongo is just the cool name we gave these inscriptions. In the Rapa Nui language, "roŋoroŋo" or "rogorogo" means "to recite, to declaim, to chant out." How cool is that?
